39 years ago today, December 23, 1968, Kendall and I were married. We were married in his home church, Ripley Church of God buy Rev. W.O. Wilkerson. I wore a pretty pink dress and Kendall had on his nice black suit. Of course none of the pictures above are of our wedding, there were only 1 3/4's pictures of the wedding, lol. My best friend growing up, Judy, was my maid of honor and her boy friend, Bob, was Kendall's best man. There wasn't too many there - my parents, my aunt and uncle, grandmother and grandfather, Kendall's mom and dad, and a few people from church, it was as nice wedding. I love having our wedding anniversary at Christmas, it is so festive with the lights, Christmas trees, people are happy and the best movies come out at Christmas! Today we are going to meet our niece, Bridgette, and our daughter and her husband, Jennifer and Richard, at New China for lunch, then Kendall and I will do a little shopping and then we'll go to a movie. So, happy anniversary Kendall, thank you for marring me and putting up with me for all these years, I love you with all my heart!

The Ice Storm - Winter 2007

They (the weathermen and newsmen) say it is the worse ice storm in recorded history of Oklahoma. We were very lucky that we still had electricity and heat, 1,000's of people were without in Oklahoma.

When I went out to the car Monday morning and it was encased in ice. I pounded and pounded but couldn't get the door open so back I went in the house to get Kendall out of his warm bed. Bless his heart, these are the pictures of him cleaning the car off for me. He is such a good husband.

To Mom!!!

My husband's mom went on to be with the Lord this spring and because she wouldn't be with us for Christmas my brother-in-law want to do something in her memory. None of us knew what on earth he was up to. He said he wanted us all (his sister, brother and me, his older son and wife, along with his wife, my sister-in-law) to meet at a restaurant and have dinner together. After dinner he brought out a box of chocolate covered cherrys. We all busted out laughing.

You see, when my mother-in-law died, we found candy stashed everywhere, 2 boxes were the chocolate covered cherrys, one was opened and the wasn't. We were amazed at all the candy she had stuffed under the bed, in the closet, in the drawer of her night stand, in the kitchen (in different places). Bless her heart, we just figured she forgot where they were and she'd buy more or one of us would get her more, lol.

This is a picture of all of us, chocolate covered cherry in hand, toasting Mom.

So, here's to you Mom! I couldn't have asked for a better mother-in-law...no, strike that...I couldn't have asked for a better 2nd Mom, because she was. We all love her and miss her. But we'll see her one day and it will be like we had never been apart!

My Village. . .

Every year Kendall and I set up our little village, and each year we try to add something new like a tree or a person or maybe a building. This year our niece, Bridgette, gave us a new church.

The above picture is of our two deer next to the new church.

The above picture has a little man with a top hat and a cane, he always makes me smile when I see him because he looks so much like my father.

In the above picture, if you look closely, you'll see a man in a brown jacket with a small child standing next to him. This man makes me small too, because he also looks like my dad when I was a child.

The figure of the girl holding the child reminds me of our daughter, Jennifer, hold her son Jacob when he was a very small boy.

I always say that the figure of the couple skating is Kendall and me, even though we have never skated before....shoot, I do good to walk without tripping, lol.

This is a better picture of the new church that Bridgette gave us.

Tostada Dinner Time . . .

How to build a good Tostada.

1. Take the tortilla (fried, baked or raw 'as we call it')
2. Add the refried beans (it's the glue that holds it all together)
3. Meat (seasoned ground beef)
4. Cheese
5. Lettuce
6. Tomatoes
7. Onions
8. Olives (black/green)
9. Jalepino (fresh, chopped)
10. Taco sauce
11. Sour Cream
Now you can have all or some of the above, but I tell you, it is yummy! I think it is time for another family dinner with tostadas.

Thanksgiving & Black Friday...

Thanksgiving was amazing!!! We had so much family & food & friends at our house. Our grand daughter, Jaqulyn, spent the night Wen. & all day she & I baked. She (with a little from me) baked 2 pecan pies, a chocolate cake (it was her oldest brother's 17th birthday), & a cherry cheese cake. Thursday morning she & her Aunt Heather helped with the dressing, turkey, noodles, gravy & sweet potatoes, that is just was I fixed for dinner along with black olives & cranberry sauce. Others brought, mash potatoes, corn, rolls, ham, broccoli, green beans, cauliflower salad (that my oldest grandson made, yummy!),

The next day was Black Friday, we didn't get up as early as we have in the past, so we got to Wal-Mart about 6:15 and shopped, went and had breakfast then shopped more above is the fruit of our shopping!

When we got home we picked up more pecans, a few in the front yard but mostly in the back yard, just one bucketful, we are going to give those to Kendall's brother and his wife...we'll let them crack and pick the nuts, lol. Really, that is something I do enjoy during the evening, Kendall and I sitting at the card table with pecan all around us, with out heads down concentrating on picking each nut out of the shell, bits and pieces of shell all around out feet, lol.

After a couple of hours of raking leaves & bending over picking pecans off the ground we went out to eat, while we were at 'Ed Johnson's' it started to snow! I was so glad to get home and get warm I felt like I was chilled to the bone.

And that is how it was at our house Thanksgiving and Black Friday...2 wonderful, wonderful days with my sweetheart, Kendall, our family and friends.

...but as of this evening, no more workin' the pecans until after Thanksgiving. Good thing, our fingers can use the rest, lol.

Turkey Cookies - The Last Ones...

The 2nd Wednesday before Thanksgiving (we don't have Wednesday night church the day before Thanksgiving) my class makes Turkey Cookies. This year I just had one little girl in my class, Bethany, and we made 24 cookies.

Through the years the children have had a lot of fun making them, and of course they love eating them. We made enough for everyone at church to have one. One of the most important things in making these cookies with children is: 1. Wash your hands 2. Don't lick your fingers 3. Don't lick your plastic knife 4. Keep the plate clean. LOL

For 24 Turkey Cookies

2 packages of Snackwell Fat Free chocolate cookies

2 packages of Fudge Stripe cookies

1 container of chocolate frosting

Reese's Peanut Butter chips or Candy Corn

1. Dab some frosting on the back of one Fudge Stripe cookie and place in the center of the plate (the frosting works like glue).

2. Dab some frosting on the back of one Snackwell cookie and stick a Fudge Stripe cookie on the back, with the stripes going up and down (this is the turkey's feathers).

3. Dab some frosting on the bottom of the two cookies and place on the cookie you have 'glued' to the plate. Make sure the stripes of the cookie on the plate is running up and down from the 'body' of the turkey. (these are the turkey's feet).

4. Take the peanut butter chip or candy corn and dab a little frosting on the back and place on the front of the Sanckwell cookie (this is the turkey's head).

This will be the last Turkey Cookies I'll be making with this class. After 15 years of teaching someone else will bless and be blessed by these wonderful children.

Saturday Visit From The Kids...

Steven and Shiloh came over last Saturday night while mom and dad went out to eat for their Anniversity. Here they helped their grandpa Kendall rake up the leaves in the front yard.

Ramona is my sister-in-law, my husband's sister. We have been best friends for about 34 years. I've always said that we are enough alike to enjoy each other and enough different to keep it interesting. She says that we have enough on each other that neither one of us can tell on the other one. LOL

Kendall's Birthday Party...

Kendall turned 60 years old on October 24th and we had a party for him last Sunday with all the family. He was able to blow out the candles with the help of canned air that worked like a blow torch and almost killed our daughter Heather that was standing in front of him taking pictures. It scared us all, but we can laugh about it now. It was a great day and the best part was all the family was there and Kendall really enjoyed himself.

Our day in Guthrie

I took last Monday off, and Kendall and I went to Guthrie, the original reason was to go to the ACE Hardware store and find the little glass top for my mother-in-law's coffee pot, but they didn't have one...so back to the ebay. After leaving ACE Hardware we went downtown to check out the antique shops. I bought some fabric for pillow cases, Kendall found a little car for his collection and I also bought 3 marbles for my small marble collection. I also bought 3 Christmas ornaments made of bells, one for Kendall and me, one for Jennifer and one for Heather. Before we left Guthrie we had lunch/dinner at a Chinese place 'Hunan Palace'. Even though it was rainy and a bit cold out, we had such a wonderful time. I'm looking forward to more days like this with Kendall.

The 11th was my dad's 83rd birthday and we had a party Saturday the 13th. This year we had pirate hats. I got up at 6:30 Saturday morning and started on the vegetable soup, it was a big pot of soup and every one had 1-3 bowls, it was really good, if I say so myself. We also had cake, yellow cake with chocolate icing along with vanilla ice cream along with brownies. Yes, enough sugar to put me in a diabetic coma...lol.

We had a great time!

Above are pictures of Christopher Columbus....the first one is Christopher Columbus the explorer and founder of the 'new world', and the second one, with his great granddaughters, is Christopher Columbus Daugherty Jr. That's my dad, and Yes, that is my dad's name. He was named after his father, Grandpa Daugherty was called 'Lum', never Chris. My Dad was called Jr. or C.C., his sisters, called him Junnie or June Bug, lol. To me he'll always be Daddy.

He will be celebrating his 83rd birthday on Thursday, October 11th. It is also my brother-in-laws birthday so we are going to have a birthday party for dad and Randall (my brother-in-law). And as I do every year, I'll make a big pot of vegetable soup (that's what dad likes) and bake a cake and have ice cream. So be on the look out for pictures of the party...it will be fun and exciting!

Grandma Barnard's clock

The picture above is my Grandma Barnard's clock. She bought it sometime in the 70's, I think, so it isn't an old clock, but it is the one she had in her home when she died. I was lucky to get it and because it didn't keep time well we took it to be repaired. It took about a month but we got it back an only cost $40 to repair it. I don't think it cost that much when she bought the clock, but it was worth it to us. It has been in our home now about 19 years. As the clock tics away so do the days we have here on earth. I hope to make them happy for my family and those around me...and if not happy at least interesting.

Before the Concert...

On September 25 our niece, Bridgette; our daughter, Jennifer; our granddaughter, Jaqulyn and I went to the first OSU Symphony Orchestra concert of the season. The orchestra did Wagner, Ewaxen and Beethoven, it was great! As we left the concert hall I asked "Who wants to come next time?!?" All hands shot up!

But before the concert we went to CeCe's Pizza, food was great but the company was the best!!!

Yes, a good time was had by all...

My Mom

This is a picture of my mother, Thressa Annetta. You pronounce her name Ther-ess-a. I always thought she had such a pretty name. Mom died about 20 years ago when our daughters were teenagers. I married pretty young and we moved to Kansas, I didn't spend much time with mom like I wanted to or should have. Life just got in the way, as it does for all of us. I told my husband today that I can't remember her voice.

I do remember...

As a small child, I remember watching my mom do hand work, later I found out that she was sewing doll clothes for my baby doll, all sewn by hand.

One night it was storming and we lost the electricity to the house, but that didn't stop mom and I enjoying a game of Yatzee, we just played by lantern light.

Mom worked full time and many times she was at work before the sun was up and sometimes didn't get home until dark, but if I asked her to color or draw with me, she always had time.

In the summer Mom, Dad and I would go to the drive-in movies. Mom would pop up a bunch of popcorn and put it in a big paper sack we'd get from the grocery store then salt it real good...yum.

One New Years Eve she and I stayed up all night (ok, it was midnight) and when 12:00 came, we threw streamers at each other, laughing all the while.

Back in the olden days (1950's) we had the stand-alone stoves that would heat each room. Mom would hold my pj's over the stove to get them warm and toasty before I put them on.

She was the best mom a little girl could have.
